The Cart Barn

'The Cart Barn' is a Grade II Listed traditional Devon stone building. Over 200 years old, it retains its charming original features while being newly converted this year with modern amenities. Located on a beautiful working farm with stunning panoramic views over the border between Devon & Cornwall. It sits on the edge of the River Tamar which is only a few minutes walk from the property!

Guests are guaranteed to enjoy this rural retreat for two & pets are more than welcome to stay for free.

On arrival to the property guests will have exclusive use of the parking area just a few meters away from the front entrance to your barn, a paved path will bring you to the fully lit front patio.

As you enter the barn, guests are greeted to an open plan living space and kitchen with a traditional country style interior throughout. A comfortable sofa and armchair sit in front of a wood burning stove to keep you warm on those cosy nights in while you choose something to watch from the huge catalogue of movies and programs on the large Samsung Smart TV. Free use of Netflix is included in the length of your stay. The Bose Bluetooth sound bar will immerse you into whatever you're watching or alternatively you can connect your phone wirelessly to play music.

The fully equipped kitchen includes everything you need for a self catering holiday if required, such as an oven, hob, microwave, fridge freezer, dishwasher, coffee machine and much more.

On warm days you can open up the large glass doors to your very own courtyard with table and chairs, together with a completely private back garden, a great opportunity for some evening alfresco dining under the clear Devon night sky! You are also more than welcome to explore our small woodland area just a few meters away from your property.

The bedroom offers a queen size bed with luxury cotton linen. A chest of drawers is available to store away clothing and there is a second Smart TV to watch while in bed.

There is an ensuite bathroom where you will find a sink with mirror, a large walk in shower and soft white towels hung on the heated towel rail.

Dan  live in a farmhouse just across the yard and are available 24/7 for anything you may need during your stay. We have information on the best local places for keen foodies, walkers, cyclists, anglers etc. and would be delighted to welcome you in person. Otherwise we will leave you in peace to enjoy your stay.

We are tucked away in possibly the most beautiful corner of rural Devon! Right in the middle of the peninsular and just next to the border of Cornwall, we are just 25 miles from the coast in either direction. If you are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of modern life, our location provides you with the most idyllic way to do so. We are surrounded in every direction by countryside and nature. With no nearby roads, towns and just a couple neighbouring buildings it is the perfect location to relax and recharge.

There is no artificial lighting so you will be able to experience completely clear night skies and being 800 metres above sea level we often have professional astronomers booking a stay to observe the stars. We also very lucky to be home to one of the largest population of bats in the UK, you will almost certainly see them flying above in the summer months.

You are more than welcome to explore our private little woodland area, it is home to trees over 200 years old and many types of birds and wildlife.

The ancient market town of Tavistock is definitely a local highlight and just a 15 minute drive from us. The only town in Devon to hold World Heritage status, it's not hard to see why with its medieval churches, shopping street and award winning Pannier Market which is open daily.

Alternatively we have the town of Launceston which is a 10 minute drive in the other direction. Similar to Tavistock it has many ancient buildings & churches, the beautiful Launceston Castle and, if modern amenities are more what you are after a Tesco Superstore!

Within walking distance (45 minutes on foot, 20 minutes by bike or 5 minutes by car) is our closest neighbourhood, Milton Abbot. A traditional and very cute little countryside village it has a few local amenities such as a pub, church and even an indoor rock climbing facility!

Our closest train station is Gunnislake Station (20 minute drive) or Okehampton Station (30 minute drive). We would be more than happy to pick you up or drop you off for a small fee, please message to confirm availability.

You will have private use of your own parking space which is located just a few meters away from the barn. We are in the perfect location for any keen walkers or cyclists. There are many public footpaths and off road tracks close to the property and some fantastic road cycling routes.

As we are very rural there is limited public transport options, so bringing a vehicle where possible is definitely recommended. However we would be happy to provide a "local taxi" service with our own car, please message for details.
